Fall is fast approaching and Iowa Safe Routes to School may have hosted its last Bike Rodeo event of the year. Last night Iowa Safe Routes to School collaborated again with EMBARC for the second time in 2021 on educating kids on bike safety. EMBARC is Iowa’s first refugee-led social services organization that offers support and resources to refugees in Iowa.

Volunteers getting registration ready

The rodeo was at the Mizo Church of Iowa. We started the event by making sure every child had a helmet and that it was properly fitted. After that, it was on to bike safety on the rodeo course. Seventy kids learned how to start/stop, use hand signals, and bike handling skills. Everyone had a great time while also learning how to ride more confidently and safely.

Volunteers Teaching

Volunteers included EMBARC Neighborhood Navigators who help families learn about living in Iowa while bridging language and culture gaps.
Iowa Safe Routes to School looks forward to working with EMBARC more in the future.
