The Iowa Safe Routes to School conference will focus on “Vision Zero for Youth.” In 2017, there were five fatalities of children under the age of 15; an alarming trend that must be reversed. We will start off with the University of Iowa’s Injury Prevention program. Pam Hoogerwerf, and her great team will discuss their exceptional program, and how it is helping Iowa move towards Vision Zero. The Governors Traffic Safety Bureau will discuss the Vision Zero goals for our state. Senior Transportation Planner, Mike Armstrong, will discuss what we can do with our built environment to help us meet our Vision Zero goals. Jami Harbrl with the Healthiest State initiative, and Dr. Cara Hamann will present on the Bicycle Safety Education database they have created. The conference will be held at the Des Moines area MPO offices January 25th from 9:30-3:00
