Iowa Safe Routes to School just got back from collaborating on Bike Rodeo in Wilton with Wellmark Healthy Hometown and Wilton PTO. We were excited to get out and help educate the kids because this particular event had been postponed due to COVID concerns in the community. Respectfully, we understood and worked with school staff and the Healthy Hometown committee to make it happen.
Wilton did an incredible job of bringing the community together to help educate the kids on biking safety. We had volunteers from the PTO, city staff, and economic development in attendance. In addition, the Wilton police department and fire department not only attending but also brought vehicles.
As a team, we helped educated about thirty kids on safe handling and riding skills. In addition, we gave also gave ten helmets away to kids who didn’t have or volunteers saw that it was time for a new helmet.
Overall everyone had a great time. Both kids and volunteers. The kids learned bike safety and community members how simple bike safety is to teach.
Iowa Safe Routes to School looks forward to growing the bike rodeo and safety education in Wilton.
